France and the United Kingdom are launching a new joint project to support Russia's chemical disarmament effort within the G8 Global Partnership.

The project will assist in the construction of a second line for the disposal of chemical weapons at the Shchuchye facility in the Kurgan region, the British embassy in Moscow said.

France has pledged six million euro for the project, which is controlled by the UK.

France and the United Kingdom will closely cooperate with the Russian Federal Industry Agency and other G8 partners, including Canada, the United States and the European Union, the embassy said.

The United Kingdom and France already have a number of projects in Shchuchye, and these projects are bilateral. France promised six million euro for ecological monitoring of the facility's safe launch and closure. The UK is supervising an international project that will create a local electric power system.
